The Heritage Foundation, the nation’s leading conservative policy research organization, announced today that it will be a major sponsor of this year’s “We the People Convention” to be held June 29 and 30 at Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
The announcement comes only days after Heritage’s release of “Changing America’s Course,” a short book by Heritage scholar Matthew Spalding that describes what’s at stake and points the way to a brighter future of opportunity and independence.
Spalding, Heritage’s vice president for American Studies, said: “Heritage is delighted to be a part of We the People, where fellow concerned citizens are gathering peacefully in the cause of liberty. We share their hopes of convincing political leaders that soaring debt, mounting national security challenges and the nation’s other problems are by no means insurmountable once confronted by the character and strength of the American people.”
The Washington-based think tank, which also was a sponsor of last year’s gathering, brings the expertise of nearly 40 years of developing and promoting policy solutions anchored in the bedrock of America’s founding principles. Heritage’s sponsorship includes key staffers’ participation in breakout sessions, among them:
• Alison Fraser, director of Heritage’s Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, on
“Saving the American Dream: The Heritage Plan to Fix the Debt, Cut Spending, and Restore Prosperity”
• David Azerrad, associate director of Heritage’s B. Kenneth Simon Center for Principles and Politics (where Spalding is director), on “We Still Hold These Truths” and “The Progressive Liberal Assault on the Founders’ Principles.”
• Russ Vought, political director of Heritage Action for America, the think tank’s political action arm.
Heritage’s presence also will be dramatic because the 45-foot Values Bus, co-sponsored by Family Research Council during their Your Money, Your Values, Your Vote national tour, will be on the scene. Visitors will be able to meet Heritage staffers and take home materials on how to help save the American Dream.
Tom Zawistowski, president of We the People Convention, said: “We are truly thankful to our friends at Heritage for their continued support. Heritage’s resources and expertise are helping propel this summer’s convention to new heights of energy and enthusiasm as well as education. The importance of the 2012 election has conservatives excited to learn about the important issues facing our state and nation.”
