Akron, OH:  Today, the Ohio TEA Party organization, the We the People Convention, released the results of a Northeast Ohio poll on the opinions of Ohio citizens about the accusations leveled against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh; the rule of law; the burden of proof; and whether he should be confirmed or not. The poll was conducted on Sunday, September 23, 2018 and surveyed 386 citizens in the Ohio counties of Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga, Portage and Trumbull.

The poll found that 96.63% of NE Ohio citizens believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty. It found that 81.97% of NE Ohio citizens believe that an accuser is required to provide some actual proof that the person accused of a crime or inappropriate act actually committed the crime or act to be taken seriously. That 78.43% believe that charges being brought by women in the new #MeToo movement should be taken seriously and be heard, but that they must meet the same burden of proof and not just be believed without evidence.

Based on the current accusations against Judge Kavanaugh that are publicly known and his unequivocal denial, 65.14% of NE Ohio citizens believe Judge Kavanaugh and 34.86% believe Dr. Ford the accuser. A huge majority of 90.29% of NE Ohio citizens think that Judge Kavanaugh should be confirmed without more evidence. Furthermore, 68.99% of NE Ohio citizens believe that, even if someone did something in high school like what Judge Kavanaugh is accused of doing or some other single event in their life, they should not be judged by that alone for the rest of their life and denied a promotion, a job, or other opportunity.

Tom Zawistowski, President of the We the People Convention said, “We were seeing polls carried by various new agencies suggesting that the American public overwhelmingly believed Dr. Ford’s accusations, that had been leaked by these same media outlets, and we were very skeptical. So, we did what we always do, we asked real citizens and found that, at least in NE Ohio, the support for Judge Kavanaugh was overwhelming based on the “evidence” that is publicly known. A full 90.29% say Judge Kavanaugh should be confirmed if more evidence is not presented and 65.14% believe Judge Kavanaugh’s denial and not the accuser. Those are strong numbers. We were also very please to see that, unlike the radical regressive socialist democrat left, 96.63% of NE Ohio citizens, many of whom are real American Democrats, believe the core foundational principle that a person is innocent until proven guilty. They also believe by 81.97% that actual proof must be provided in order for an accuser to be taken seriously, even in the cases of inappropriate behavior identified by those in the #MeToo movement by 78.43%. The left is attempting to destroy our legal system by turning it into Kangaroo Courts where they can ruin a persons life just because they don’t agree with that person’s political views. That’s mob rule not the rule of law. Our poll shows that this political stunt by the left is being thoroughly rejected by all sides of the American public who believe in the rule of law and our US Constitution.”
