Attorney Donald C. Brey, with the firm of Isaac Wiles, Columbus, OH
Columbus Attorney Donald C. Brey is one of the foremost experts on Ohio election law. Don will advise us on how WE can become active in running our elections in 2020 in order to assure that our vote is legal and accurate. He will answer YOUR questions about the entire election process and provide historical examples of problems that have been discovered in the past and how those problem were identified and rectified.
Don brings over thirty years of experience advising and representing clients in the areas of litigation and administrative law, ethics, and campaign and election law. He appears routinely on behalf of his clients before the Ohio Elections Commission, the Ohio Ethics Commission, the Inspector General’s office, and the Joint Legislative Ethics Commission. He also handles cases before the Ohio Supreme Court’s Board of Ethics and Grievances, the Disciplinary Counsel and bar association Certified Grievance Committees. Don frequently advises and represents religious and other non-profit organizations on a wide variety of issues. He advises office holders, candidates and other politically active individuals and organizations on campaign finance law compliance issues regarding appropriate fundraising and spending, candidate filings, as well as avoiding or defending slander or libel charges during a campaign. Don has perennially been recognized as an Ohio Super Lawyer in the area of Political Law for his work in this area.
Attorney Eric Lee, Judicial Watch, Election Laws Division, Washington, DC
Attorney Eric Lee primarily practices in Judicial Watch's very active Election Law Division. While at Judicial Watch, Mr. Lee’s focus has been on enforcing Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which requires states to take reasonable efforts to remove certain ineligible voters from its voter registration lists. Mr. Lee works with local and statewide election officials throughout the country in monitoring and enforcing the provisions of Section 8 of the NVRA. At the Convention, Mr. Lee will give an over-view of voter fraud concerns that Judicial Watch has identified nationally and will discuss the things that we as citizens can do to eliminate voter fraud in Ohio for the 2020 election.
Since 2018, Mr. Lee has achieved two statewide settlement agreements related to the NVRA’s enforcement. He was co-counsel for Judicial Watch against Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan and California Secretary of State Alex Padilla in forcing California to modify its list maintenance program and take reasonable efforts to remove ineligible voters from its rolls. He also obtained a court-ordered consent judgment against the Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes and Kentucky State Board of Elections to do the same.
Catherine Engelbrecht, Founder of TRUE the VOTE, Houston, TX
Catherine Engelbrecht, is a true American hero, and will be presented with our "Spirit of Freedom" Award during the Convnetion luncheon. Catherine Engelbrecht, and her family, her family business, and her non-profit organization were subjected to brutal and illegal attacks by dozens of Obama Administration Agencies from the IRS to OSHA - simply because she wanted to make sure that only registered voters were allowed to vote in our elections. In her 2014 testimony in front of Congress Engelbrecht famously proclaimed "I will not Retreat. I will not Surrender. I refuse to be Intimidated." Indeed she was not intimidated and this June 2019 True the Vote was awarded $2 million in damages from the IRS who discriminated against the organization according to a Federal Judge.
True the Vote has played a critical role, for the past 10 years, in helping TEA Party Groups around the nation to get the voter roles in their states purged of people who are dead, or no longer living in the state, and who are simply not US Citizens and thus ineligible to vote. Despite having the full force of the Federal Government used against her, she has made a huge difference in making American citizens, and politicians, aware of defects in our election systems and getting the loop holes closed. She is an example to all of us in the TEA Party Movement that it is up to us to force our government to do their jobs and provide for fair and honest election and to protect our own rights.
Frank LaRose, Ohio Secretary of State, Columbus, OH
We are pleased and honored to announce, Frank LaRose, Ohio Secretary of State, will join us at the 2019 We the People Convention on Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Columbus, OH. Secretary LaRose will discuss voter registration, absentee ballot use and how his office intends to make sure every valid vote is counted in 2020 during his Convention address. His staff will be providing quantities of voter registration forms and absentee ballot request forms to Convention attendees to take home with them after the Convention.
The We the People Convention endorsed Frank LaRose in the 2018 election in his run for Ohio Secretary of State and motivated Ohio activists to get out the vote to elect him to this important position that not only oversees election integrity, but will also play an important role in redistricting after the 2020 elections. Despite differing views on some policy issues, Frank LaRose has been a supporter of the TEA Party Movement literally from it's very beginning in Ohio. LaRose spoke at the very first Portage County TEA Party event on July 11, 2009 in Ravenna, OH. LaRose would often show up at 2:00 AM to show support and encourage TEA Party members taking bus trips to the historic rallies in Washington, DC.
Frank LaRose took office as Ohio's 51st Secretary of State on January 14th, 2019. Prior to being elected to statewide office, he served two terms in the State Senate representing the 27th Senate District in northeast Ohio. In his role as Ohio’s chief elections officer, he’s working to ensure Ohio’s elections are accessible, accurate and secure.
David Conte, NRA-ILA Grassroots Coordinator, Toledo, OH
David Conte, Grassroots Field Coordinator for the National Rifle Association Institute of Legislative Action. David started working for the NRA in 2010 and has filled many roles within the organization over the years. He has successfully carried out political operations in Ohio, Indiana, and Louisiana in support of the NRA’s endorsed candidates and played a key role in Trump's Ohio victory in 2016. Prior to the NRA David was a political consultant, campaign manager, and active volunteer working on races in over a dozen states.
In his current role David manages all of ILA’s ground operations in, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. As such, he and his staff will be working with the We the People Convention and Ohio TEA Party/Liberty groups to organize our grassroots efforts to get out our voters once again in 2020. Working together in 2016, Ohio led all other states in our GOTV efforts with our activist making over 1.5 million phone calls, knocking on tens of thousands of doors, and convincing long time non-voters to come out and vote for the first time in decades in many cases.
At the Convention, David will be sharing his vision for how we can work together in Ohio to organize our efforts to get out our vote in 2020. He will also be talking about the NRA-ILA resources that will be available to our activist next year including some new technology that had not previously been available to us.

Tom Zawistowski has been the Executive Director of the non-profit Portage County TEA Party since the TEA Party Movement began 10 years ago in 2009.
